Padel: Rules of the game
Padel is a racket sport that is played only in doubles. It can be played indoors or outdoors. The two teams are separated by a padel net and the court is marked by service lines and boxes. The walls around the court helps to spice up the game meaning that the ball can bounce in unexpected directions.
Points: Padel uses the same scoring system as tennis. It takes six games to win a set and the team that wins two sets wins the game. A game is broken down exactly as in tennis: 15/0, 30/0, 40/0, advantage, game. If the score is tied at six games to one, a tie-break is played, as in tennis. If the match is tied at one set to none, a ten-point super tie-break will be played as a third set.
Serving: The serve is spooned diagonally, with two service attempts (first and second ball). The server first bounces the ball (behind his own service line), then hits it below the belt. The server is behind the service line. The ball must bounce into the opposite service box before it is hit by the receiver. If the ball does not bounce into the service box, it is a fault. After passing the net, any ball that first touches a surface other than the floor is a fault for the server. If the ball bounces in the box and touches the net before crossing the service line (on the receiver’s side), it is also a fault. If the ball hits the net and bounces into the box, it is a let. If it hits the net before the second bounce, it is a fault.
Players: Once the ball is in play, all balls that cross the net must first bounce off the ground on the opponent’s side before hitting a wall or the net. With the exception of the serve and return of service, a ball may be volleyed. Players may hit the ball after it has bounced off a wall to return it to the opponent on the other side. Just like in tennis, the ball can only bounce once to your side and it can only be hit once. The second bounce on the ground results in the loss of the point. You can smash the ball hard to get it out after it has bounced, the opposing team can run to try to put it back in if and only if a second bounce on the floor has not been made.
